Pulse is a professional UK-based umbrella company for contract workers, offering services to ensure maximum take home pay whilst providing complete peace of mind regarding tax and compliance.

The brief

Create a brand name, identity and applications that will position the new business proposition and thrust it forward as a leading competitor in the umbrella market for contractors.

The situation

The Pulse directors are all great professionals with good experience in business and very knowledgeable when it comes to their market. They knew that the right emotive brand with great offerings could be the key to entice contractors to swap provider or join afresh.

The solution

We began by investigating the values, offerings, potential market audiences and competitors before we could begin development of the brand name and identity. With a strategic view of the market now in place, we identified a name that would suggest up-to-date, continuous movement and innovation. We supported this with an identity which was strong and reflected the work and lifestyle side of contractors' lives, throwing back the reasons of the work-life-balance. To try and avoid the stale process of PAYE we also ensured the brand was chatty and talked to its audience in simple and friendly ways.

The brand identity was rolled out to the website, brand club, stationery, signage, adverts, html mailers, brochures and business forms. We launched it in one fell swoop giving it the best chance of exposure and impact.

Pulse is exceptionally happy with the results and is making great steps in the market. In just twelve months it has risen to become the 5th largest provider, firmly focused on the top spot.
